Let your imagination run wild as you spot these whimsical formations and marvel at the wonders of nature.Next, we will visit Pasabag, also known as Monk's Valley, where you will encounter mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys. These distinctive structures were formed due to the deposition of harder rock material above. The valley earned its nickname due to the ascetic monks who inhabited the area as early as the 5th century, leading hermit lifestyles. Some of them built dwellings inside the pillars, known as "stylite" living, derived from the Greek word "stylos" meaning pillar. These monks lived, fasted, and prayed in these unique structures.Continuing our journey, we will reach the town of Avanos, situated on the banks of the Red River (Kizilirmak). You can still observe traditional Ottoman architecture features, ancient decorations, motifs, and murals in some abandoned houses. As a special experience, you will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on pottery workshop and discover the artistry of local craftsmen.Afterward, we will take a break for lunch (included) before heading to the renowned Goreme Open Air Museum. Prepare to be amazed by the extraordinary rock formations and intricate rock-cut churches that await you. Exploring the depths of Goreme will leave you in awe, capturing countless unforgettable moments that will surely fill your camera's memory. Our final stop for the day will be the village of Uchisar, perched on a steep rock formation. Just outside the main entrance, you will come across the Necropolis (Graveyard) with over 1200 tombs and sarcophagi. The people who desired to be buried here believed that being in close proximity to the hot springs and vapor-emitting cracks would facilitate their journey to the Underworld. Among the tombs, you will find the Martyrium, an octagonal 5th-century structure believed to have been built on the site where St. Philip was martyred in 80 CE.Next, you will witness the popularity of the Hierapolis springs among Romans, as you explore the city's baths. These baths, with their glossy marble interiors, have now been converted into a somewhat average Archaeological Museum. Carved into the mountainside, you will discover the magnificent Grand Theater, which dominates the panoramic view of Hierapolis. Most of the seating area, with a capacity for 25,000 spectators, remains intact, along with intricately sculpted decorative elements from the 3rd century CE.After exploring Hierapolis, you will take a leisurely stroll to Pamukkale, known as the 'Cotton Castle'. This natural wonder has attracted visitors from around the world for more than 23 centuries with its thermal springs. The name Pamukkale refers to the unique surface of the snow-white cliffs, shaped over millennia by the accumulation of calcium deposited by mineral springs. Legend has it that these formations are solidified cotton left out to dry by giants. The mineral-rich water slowly trickles down the mountainside, forming terraced basins and cascading stalactite-like formations into milky pools below. While Pamukkale's springs may overshadow the ancient city of Hierapolis and its accompanying museums, they are nevertheless captivating. Before leaving Pamukkale, it is highly recommended to experience the healing properties of Cleopatra's Pool. This warm, clear, fizzy water, bubbling from the springs, is now restricted to prevent divers from venturing into its hidden depths. At the bottom of the pool, you can marvel at the ancient remains of Roman columns, creating an oasis-like ambiance.During the tour, you will have a one-hour break to rest, take in the breathtaking views, and optionally enjoy refreshments from the on-site cafeteria.
